Who is Durga ?

It is known from the Ramayana that the Krishtas worshiped the goddess prematurely (in the autumn) for Ravanadha. Since then its name is either premature or shardia durga puja. Basanti puja is on the dry ground of Chaitra, and Shardia worship is usually done on Ashwin or Kartik.

Shardia worship is more prevalent today. During this time, the goddess is realized on Shukla VI, and the idol is sacrificed on the tenth day by worshiping on the seventh, Ashtami and Navami (Mahanabami).
